About Us

AST is an acronym for Advanced Squad Tactics.
We are a multi-gaming team that focuses on realistic and tactical gaming. While we call ourselves a team, the community of and around AST plays a big role in our development and how we work.

Our motto, "In unity, there is strength", is the foundation to what we do and more importantly how we do it. We understand that a group has more capabilities than the sum of its members and apply this principle both in the games we play and in the team itself.

Our Philosophy

The goal of our team is fun and nothing else but fun.
We want to play tactical games together, mostly FPS in modern times. And we want to play as realistically as possible. We seek to use real life tactics and procedures as far as possible. We want to create, experience and get immersed into the atmosphere of the game. This is fun for us.

This game-style requires a certain kind of player.
Every players needs some tactical understanding and a certain degree of self-discipline. We try to teach new players who like the way we play and want to learn, no matter if they are team members or not. Having more good players means more fun. Bad players kill the fun. That is the reason this team was founded.

Team members receive rigorous training.
Because of this training members trust each other 105% when playing together. You lay your virtual life in the hands of your comrades and you carry the responsibility for them likewise. Only this trust allows the correct application of most real-life tactics. And it is a great experience, pure adrenaline and fun.

We offer a platform to discuss, improve and develop tactics.
This is fun for some of us. Likewise, we manage several resources like a website where we can represent our team, a forum where we can talk with each other, game-servers where we can play our way. This is work and rarely fun. But it is simply necessary.

We incorporate non-members.
Joining a team as ours requires time. Not everyone has this time. We understand this and have thus developed a system to allow everyone to take part in the experience. See the individual Squad pages (drop-down menu from "Gaming") for this, or check out the Ally program.

The Team Structure

Commission - Commissioned Officers. The team is lead by a small group of people, the Commission. This group consists of all Commissioned Officers (COs); leading and managing the team itself, the Squads and generally oversee the management of our resources.

Non-commissioned Officers. Non-commissioned Officers (NCOs) are members of the team who are more dedicated to the team, are more skilled and have further responsibilities in the team than regular members. Oftentimes they take management duties in Squads or are delegated to manage certain resources of the team.

Enlisted Ranks. The Enlisted Ranks form the baseline of the team, they are regular members. Having received rigorous training through a Squad, they are admitted into the team after meeting certain requirements. These players make fully capable, skilled and deadly operators.

Allies. Allies are trusted players of the team. This is the highest "group" in the AST Community that is not part of the Team itself. They have no duties regarding the team but usually earned a reputation with the team through skill, contribution or both and are thus granted additional permissions.

Friends. Friends are a loose group. These are players that simply play with us or take part in forum discussions and have made friends within the team. Friends sometimes receive limited additional permissions.
