Squads

Our team supports various games. In order to keep things organized and efficient we use a concept of organisation units called “Squads”.

What is a “Squad”?

In a nutshell a Squad is a group of members responsible to handle every issue connected to a specific game. For example there are Admins who ensure that the game servers run smooth, handle troublemakers and install custom content like maps or mods. There are also Instructors who organize trainings and teach new members. So a Squad organizes and manages everything around a certain, single game.

Why the name “Squad”?

The concept is kind of similar to a Squad in the field (i.e. a group of fireteams), therefore we have chosen this name.

And why these Squads?

This system allows our members complete freedom: you might focus just on a single game, or get involved in a whole bunch of tactical games together with your known and trusted teammates. You might just enjoy playing, or take a responsibility within one or more Squads and push your favorite games forward.

Isn’t that kind of chaotic?

As everyone knows even family members argue from time to time with each other. To keep things smooth we have certain guidelines and internal procedures which all Squads have to follow. This guidelines are made by the Commission, a leading council made up of all Squad Leaders. The Commission keeps the team together and manages shared resources which are used by more than one Squad, e.g. our Website/Forum, Xfire-Group and TS3 server.

So AST supports every kind of game?

No, we don’t. Besides our flexible structure described above we are only interested in realistic, modern infantry combat.
We use a common arsenal of real-life tactics no matter which game we play. If a game doesn’t allow the successful use of such real-life tactics because of unrealistic game dynamics, out team is not interested in this game. The decision whether a game fits our style or not is always made by the Commission, possibly after a limited test phase.
However of course we don’t forbid our members to play other games. They can even use the forum or other team resources to coordinate gaming in literally every game. But we will never recruit a new member because of his skills in a “run, gun and respawn” game like CoD.
