Let’s gather some nice series and movies here for this free evenings when somehow no one else has time to play.

Disclaimer: Please realize that many of the movies/series here are fiction made to entertain and do not necessarily show real life tactics or procedures..

Flashpoint
This series shows fictional deployments of a fictional Canadian Swat team called “SRU”. Like in real Swat operations, focus is often on gathering information and negotiating rather than lethal force.

Sons of Guns
This series is about the real firearms manufacturer “Red Jacket”. These guys build some really cool stuff, and at the end they always blow something up. Moreover while watching one can learn how various firearms operate. Just don’t try this at home wink

The Unit

This fictional series depicts operations of a top-secret military special unit. Focus differs between military action and small intrigues at the home front. Probably quite far away from real life, but nevertheless entertaining.

Ultimate Force
This series shows fictional deployments of the British SAS. I’m not sure how real the scenarios and tactics are, but usually there is some entertaining action besides the personal interactions between the characters.

Blackhawk Down
A commonly know movie about an operation of US forces in Somalia which didn’t go as planned. Not a documentation, but based on a real incident. One of the lessons learned: never move out without your NVG.

S.W.A.T.
An action-crime-thriller using the LAPD Swat as setting. The first deployment is loosely based on a real incident, the rest is probably pure fiction. Nevertheless quite nice entertainment.

The Negotiator
A fictional movie about a negotiator of the LAPD who takes hostages himself. Not really close to real-life, but nevertheless one of my personal favorites.

Well, afaik the original english title is only "S.W.A.T.". In Germany it got a subtitle like "The Special Unit".

I don't actually like Tactical Force, but SWAT: Firefight is nice (if you won't count it as realistic movie). Flashpoint and The Unit are my favorite ones.

The Raid could be also cool, but I don't like it as well, to be honest.

Band of Brothers
Follows Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne division in Operation Overlord, Operation Market Garden and the battle of Bastogne. Well made and realistic war scenarios with an incredible story if you ask me.

SAS: Are You Tough Enough

- British documentary series exposing volunteer members of the public to the experience of the SAS selection process presented by Dermot O'Leary. On average only 10 out of the 125 soldiers taking the real SAS selection procedure pass.[1] In contrast to the real SAS, this programme also featured female candidates. As with real selection, initially the candidates were pushed to the limits to reduce the numbers, with survivors in the latter stages, trained and assessed in a variety of military training exercises.

The contestants participated in exercises experienced in the real selection process, although over a shorter time frame, with the winner only getting a hand-shake from the ex-SAS SSgt Eddie Stone. For realism, exercises were controlled by ex-members of the SAS, notably Staff Sergeant Eddie Stone, with additional comments about what would happen in the real process from other ex-SAS members. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAS:_Are_You_Tough_Enough%3F

Zero dark thirty

- A chronicle of the decade-long hunt for al-Qaeda terrorist leader Osama bin Laden after the September 2001 attacks, and his death at the hands of the Navy S.E.A.L. Team 6 in May 2011. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1790885/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Tactical force

- A training exercise for the LAPD SWAT Team goes terribly wrong when they find themselves pitted against two rival gangs while trapped in an abandoned Hangar, armed with nothing but blanks. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1458915/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_4
