Debate - Checking door locks

It could possibly create a noise, but I don't believe the tangos are alerted to it in the game. The game produces a much louder noise than checking in real life would produce.

Front door entries, you always check the lock before you ram it or shotgun it. Many times the door doesn't open on the first attempt at a ram or shotgun breach as often doors are reinforced or have bars on the inside you can't see from outside. Trying the knob and pushing if it turns freely are the best way to enter whether in stealth or dynamic.

The pointman often has this check completed before the 2nd or 3rd man are even stacked up, so it wastes no time. If the pointman can check this and the EL orders a bang and clear, he can immediately switch to his breaching shotgun when he hears the pin being pulled. If in stealth, the EL will audibly hear the check and order a pick or explosive breach without any need for the pointman to report the fact that the door is locked.

Lots of upside to using the check and only one theoretically downside(tangos MAY hear it).

I would further suggest that pointmen who discover an unlocked door, report it to the EL. The EL will hear if it was locked when you checked it due to the noise we hear, so no need to report it to him unless he is away from your assault team.

For an unlocked door, the only way the EL knows you have checked it, is by reporting DOOR UNLOCKED.

If it's part of your SOP to check all doors, the EL hears you jiggle the handle and knows it's locked. If he hears nothing, it's unlocked ;-)

But there is a downside, at least a theoretically. So we should use the check only when necessary.

It's not necessary to check the door again 10 times after you found it locked at the first attempt...it won't change unless your steady jounce makes a tango opening the door from the other side.

It's also not necessary to check the lock if the EL plans to use c2 (or bsg) anyway (because the team is low on cover or he wants additional distraction for the entry).

And if yo ask me, on stealth there is no need to check the lock until the whole team is finally ready for entry. Speed doesn't really matter. So one can simply try to open the door normally.

Still it's a useful option to speedup dynamic movements and prepare double entries.
