We [AST] plan to organize a contest for a pretty long time. I think the release of the SAS mod is a good reason to do it right now
Team Selection - I would like to invite ETS and SAS [actually we also invited SOG]
- each clan chooses a team of 7 members, this team is fixed
- one of the team members will be the team Captain, he will be mainly responsible for communication with the other teams
- each team will get a letter randomly, so we'll have teams A,B and C
Map Selection - each team will choose secretly one map (based on the team letter we can call the maps "map A", "map B" and "map C")
- the team will create a short briefing for his own map (general info like assumed number of tangos and equipment of tangos) and set a time limit
Rounds - in the first round each team will play one map of another team; they will get the map files just when they are ready to play the map; they will just get the information from the prepared briefing
[so the team might encounter a completely unknown map; that's the main challange of the contest
]
- in the second round each team will play again a map chosen by another team, again a suprising map with just the prepared briefing
- at the third round they will play their own choosen map, so here prior training is possible
[last round is for fairness: if you choose a difficult map for the other teams, your team must also be able to finish it
]
- each map might be played by up to 6 officer (so one member is in "reserve")
- an injured officer must heal, therefore he can't play in the next round
[not sure how we handle the punch of an officer, e.g. in case a light stick bug occurs]
- an incapacitated officer is either heavily wounded or even dead, he can't play in any of the following rounds; he can't be replaced by another clan member!
[that means if you lose 3 officer in round 1, you'll have to manage round 2 and following round 3 with at maximum 4 officers]
Scoring - basic score for each round will be final ingame score after the map is finished
- futher we will add a "time penalty": every 10 seconds above the time limit of the map will cost 1 point
[notice: you don't have to collect all evidences, but you need all toc-reports to finish the map in SAS mod!]
- the time penalty and penalty for the 2nd try will be handled like ingame penalties, that means it can't reduce the final map score below 0
- final score of the contest will be the sum of all rounds minus a penalty of 20 for every dead officer and a penalty of 10 for every officer injured in the last round
2nd try - the team may decide to repeat a map
- each map can just be repeated once
- ofc they must take this decision before the next round starts
- if they decide to take a 2nd try, all results and events (i.e. inuries) of the first try are immediately forgotten (that means only the 2nd try counts in every aspect, but it will count for sure!)
- at the first round the score of the team recieves a penalty of 40 points if they take a second try (since they had the oppertunity to scout the map during the first try)
- at round 2 and 3 the score penalty is 20 points
Organisation - map X will always be played on the server from team X to ensure equal conditions for all teams
- each round will be observed by at least one but not more than 2 members of a designated "juror" team; the juror will measure the time need to complete the mission (starting when the briefing screen disappear, stoping when the final debriefing screen appears); he will write down the final score
[so basically he doesn't need to decide anything, just observe and log]
- up to 2 members of the third team may also observe (free roam spectate)
- Concret:
Round 1
Map A at server A played by team B; juror team A
Map B at server B played by team C; juror team B
Map C at server C played by team A; juror team C
Round 2
Map A at server A played by team C; juror team B
Map B at server B played by team A; juror team C
Map C at server C played by team B; juror team A
Round 3
Map A at server A played by team A; juror team B
Map B at server B played by team B; juror team C
Map C at server C played by team C; juror team A
- each round will last 1 week
- if a team doesn't manage to play the designated map at the designated server with a present juror, the team will receive score 0 for this round
- if there are any "conflicts" or discussions, they are decided by a majority vote of the 3 team Captains
[but since there is nothing to win excpet a lot of fun, I guess/hope everyone "plays" fair
]
I think this system creates a nice challenge, while the work of organisation is equaly balanced between all teams.
The use of different servers and a fix timelimit for every round should ensure that this event really happens and get finished
Timeframe:
- all clans will post the list of teammembers inlcusive a team Captain here, then we can start the contest
- in the first week all teams chose the secret map and prepare briefings inclusive a timelimit ("preparation week")
- at the next 3 weeks we will play one round per week as described above
- changes of the system or the rules may be discussed until the first round starts; if we can't find a consense concerning a rule issue, the council of team captains will make a final decision by majority vote during the preparation week
Concerning the briefing:
- it should give a plausible scenario for the map
- it must give a vague number of tangos and civilians (+/- 10 from the true value)
- it must give general information about the equipment used by tangos:
-- majority of weapons: small handguns/small automatic weapons/assault rifles
-- body armor: no/yes, but just for a minority of tangos/yes, for a majority of tangos
-- gasmask: no/yes, but just for a minority of tangos/yes, for a majority of tangos
-- goggles: no/yes, but just for a minority of tangos/yes, for a majority of tangos
- it might give futher hints/advise like a floorplan; this hints may be unprecise or even in parts wrong; they should fit the given general scenario
How about the designation of a random letter to the teams. It's imho not really important so I think it should be enough if I dig out a dice and post the result here. I promise not to cheat
But in case you want a provable random team distribution we could also manage this (with a little more work using a file-encryption tool like WinRar or 7zip).
